Third-Generation Workroom Expands Capabilities While Honoring Legacy of Excellence

WAVERLY, IA, April 13, 2025 – The Workroom Collective, a full-service, trade-only custom workroom, today announced its official launch following the acquisition and rebrand of Kay & L Draperies, a third-generation business with a longstanding reputation for quality craftsmanship in the window coverings industry. The transition, led by Jill Ballew, CEO of High Country Drapery Design, marks a new chapter for the business, preserving its trusted legacy while evolving its brand and expanding its presence within the interior design community.
The rebrand will formally debut at the International Window Coverings Expo in West Palm Beach, FL, on April 15–16, 2025, at booth A20 in North Entrance Lobby A.
The entire Kay & L team will remain in place through the transition, continuing to provide the same level of service, precision, and reliability that designers have depended on for decades. Under Ballew’s leadership, The Workroom Collective will build upon this foundation while introducing new energy and a refreshed identity.

“Kay & L built its reputation on quality, trust, and craftsmanship—values that align perfectly with my own,” said Jill Ballew, CEO of The Workroom Collective. “I’m honored to carry the torch forward alongside a team with such deep knowledge and dedication. The Workroom Collective will remain committed to precision, service, and exceptional results, while embracing a fresh identity and broader reach within the trade.”
Operating exclusively on a COM (customer’s own material) model, The Workroom Collective partners with interior designers and trade professionals to produce custom drapery, roman shades, motorized treatments, specialty valances, cornices, bedding, shower curtains, pillows, and table linens. The company serves as a behind-the-scenes creative partner, translating designer vision into beautifully executed soft furnishings and window treatments.
In addition to her leadership role at HCDD, Ballew is a board member of the Window Coverings Association of America (WCAA) and a familiar face at top design events, including High Point Market and other industry conferences. Her presence in the national design community positions The Workroom Collective to grow its influence while remaining rooted in craftsmanship and trade partnership.
